Abstract:

An obvious solution to accumulation of salt and water logging in the root zone is installing subsurfacedrainage and leaching excessive salt and water. If tile drainage is not feasible growing salt resistantcrops is recommended. In this work we used SaltMod computer program to study, salt accumulationin the root zone profile, in the drainage water, and below the root zone, for two resistant and sensitivefield crops, namely wheat and maize. After leaching excess salts and bringing the ECe of saltaffected soils to 4dS/m, changes in salinity of the above parameters were studied for a period of 20years while irrigating the crops . We also used deficit irrigation in the amount of 40% for wheat andmaize in order to evaluate the performance of these two strategic crops in central Khuzistanprovince, under a combined water and salt stress.
