Abstract:
The present study was conducted to give a comparative analysis of Betty Friedan's feminist book‘The Feminine Mystique’ and its Persian translation using House's model of TQA (TranslationQuality Assessment). This study had three main objectives. Firstly, it aimed to examine whetherthe Persian translation of Betty Friedan's ‘The Feminine Mystique’ followed House's TQA modelin terms of covert or overt translation. Secondly, it sought to analyze how the feminist orientationswere portrayed in the Persian translation, in accordance with TQA. Finally, it purposed to explorethe most frequently used translation strategy in the Persian translation of Betty Friedan's ‘TheFeminine Mystique’. To do so, a descriptive-comparative analysis of the Persian rendition of BettyFriedan’s feminist book was done with reference to House’s model of TQA. The findings of thestudy suggested that the Iranian translators who translated this groundbreaking book, withcommitting slight changes in meaning most frequently could provide an overt translation andpreserve the feminist orientations of the original book. The preservation of the feminist attitudesin the Persian translation of ‘The Feminine Mystique’ indicated that the translators wereconsiderably faithful to the source text and successfully maintained the core message and ideologyof the original text.
