Abstract:
According to international standards and codes, the designer engineers require the precise value ofthe structural period to derive the spectral response acceleration values. Hence, the more accuratecalculation of the structural period, the more precise analysis and design of the structure. The presentresearch work aims to introduce the amended tentative fundamental period mathematical relationshipfor residential buildings including concrete, steel, and masonry structures taking the effects of nonstructuralelements into account using the ambient vibration measurements. In this research, fourconcrete structures, four steel structures, and three masonry structures were studied during theirconstruction process. The fundamental periods of the aformentioned structural systems were achievedthrough the “Floor Spectral Ratio (FSR)” signal processing technique. To be more efficientengineering computation due to the interaction between structural and non-structural elements, it isrecommended that the modification factors of the approximate fundamental periods should berespectively applied as ۰.۵۰, ۰.۶۰, and ۰.۷۰ for the concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
