Abstract:
Nowadays, engineers often design earthquake-resistant structures without applying the effects ofsoil-structure interaction, however these effects may have a significant impact on the response anddynamic behavior of the structure against earthquakes. The purpose of this research is to investigatethe effects of soil-structure interaction on the dynamic behavior of special reinforced concrete momentframes located on shallow foundations and evaluating their performance. Modeling and analysis ofsoil, foundations and frames system in this study have been done by using OpenSees software. Basedon the method presented in FEMA P-۶۹۵, the structures were designed with fixed bases and evaluatedunder both fixed and flexible base conditions. According to the result, it seems that the frames whichare designed with fixed base in areas of high seismic intensity, may not exhibit satisfactory seismicperformance in reality, and as a result the effects of soil-structure interaction should be considered intheir design process.
