The current research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of positive psychotherapy training onthe academic performance and characteristics of high school students in Ardal city, was conductedin a semi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statisticalpopulation of the present study was made up of all the high school students of Ardal city, of which۳۰ people were selected by purposive sampling and randomly divided into two experimental andcontrol groups. The research tools included Goldberg's five-factor personality questionnaire(۱۹۹۹) with ۵۰ items, Pham and Taylor's (۱۹۹۰) academic performance scale, and the positivepsychotherapy intervention program with ۸ sessions. The experimental group received thistraining, while the control group received such training. It did not receive any intervention. In orderto analyze the data, the social science software package was used in two sections: descriptivestatistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (covariance analysis). The resultsof the research analysis showed that positive psychotherapy training is effective on the academicperformance of secondary school students in Ardal schools (effect size = ۰.۷۹۹, p < ۰.۰۵). Also, positive psychotherapy training was effective on the characteristics of high school students inArdal schools (effect size = ۰.۶۸۵, p < ۰.۰۵). Therefore, based on the results of this research, it ispossible to improve the academic performance and personality characteristics of high schoolstudents by using positive psychotherapy training. Therefore, planning to improve and developpositive thinking skills is recommended.
