Abstract:

Until recently, architecture was primarily evaluated based on its stylistic and visualcharacteristics. Since the architectural space is vital, it should not be assessedindependently of its environment and users. Pallasmaa emphasizes the importance ofexperience and the connection with the environment in architecture. Phenomenologyaims to create sensory perception by creating an abstract experience beyondtangibility. Sensing beyond physical entities in a spatial experience enhances meaning.Phenomenology is the philosophical study of the world that manifests directly inconsciousness. It was a broad philosophical movement that was established in theearly years of the ۲۰th century by Edmund Husserl, a German philosopher andmathematician. He referred to it as a "descriptive psychology" and it was lateraugmented by a group of his adherents at the universities of Göttingen and Munich inGermany. This philosophy later spread to France, the United States, and others.Buildings and cities serve as essential vantage points for comprehending andconfronting human existence. Hence, architecture must be viewed as a subject ofphenomenology. This research delves into the correlation between phenomenologyand architectural space, and It argues that the relationship between humans and thebuilt environment will be strengthened if the mentioned features can participate in thespace.
