Abstract:

Dental implants are commonly used for replacing missing teeth, but their long-term success is dependent on the coating materials used. Traditional metal coatings like titanium, despite their mechanical strength, have limitations in terms of corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, leading to potential complications. To address these issues, this study investigates the development and evaluation of new coatings for dental fixtures using composite and ceramic biomaterials, specifically hydroxyapatite (HA), zirconia, and bioactive glass-reinforced composites. The coatings were characterized based on their surface morphology, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility.Surface morphology analysis revealed that HA coatings provided a porous structure conducive to cell attachment and osseointegration, while zirconia coatings offered a smooth, wear-resistant surface. Mechanical testing indicated that zirconia coatings had superior hardness, making them suitable for load-bearing applications. Composite coatings showed a balanced mechanical performance, providing sufficient hardness and flexibility to reduce stress concentration at the implant-bone interface.
