Abstract:

In this article Hot Tube Spinning process, which is being used in production of CNG cylinders, is studied using ABAQUS finite element package. Therefore, an isothermal 3-D elastic-plastic finite element model is developed. For validation of the numerical analysis the variations of internal energy and kinetic energy are monitored. Finally outputs including: change in forming forces, contact areas and distribution of plastic strains during a pass of forming was extracted. As a result, increase of spinning pitch lead to increase of the forming forces and decrease of equivalent plastic strain. One reason for rise of the forming forces is shown to be the increase of contact area between the forming roller and the workpiece.
