Vibration Drilling (VD) is a new technology that longitudinal wave with high frequency and low amplitude is applied on tool while engagement between tool and workpiece during machining process is connected and disconnected. Using of vibration tool for VD has some advantages such as improvement of surface quality, dimensional accuracy and chip breakage. In this study the rotary vibration drilling tool was designed and fabricated for performing VD. High frequency longitudinal wave is transmitted to machining tool through ultrasonic transducer and designed horn. Electrical current is transmitted by two pairs of brushes and cupper rings to ultrasonic transducer located on the back of the lathe machine spindle. Vibration tool (horn and drill) was designed by ANSYS software in order to have longitudinal frequency of 20kHz. This technique (rotary vibration drilling) has ability to drill various workpieces with different sizes. This possibility is not available in processes that vibration or rotation is applied to drill or workpiece separately. Finally, some experiments were performed on aluminum workpiece by the same tool and by optimizing the process conditions, the effect of VD on thrust force studied and compared with Ordinary Drilling (OD).
