Abstract:
This study evaluates the effectiveness of advanced technologies in polymer waste management, focusing on biodegradation, recycling, and advanced oxidation processes. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, analyzing data from studies published between ۲۰۰۰ and ۲۰۲۴. The findings reveal that all three technologies significantly reduce polymer waste and improve water quality, with advanced oxidation processes demonstrating the highest efficacy. Biodegradation technologies are effective in specific environments but face scalability challenges due to environmental variability. Recycling technologies offer substantial economic and environmental benefits by converting waste into reusable materials, thus reducing landfill use and conserving resources. Advanced oxidation processes are particularly effective in industrial applications, providing robust solutions for treating complex chemical structures in wastewater. The thematic analysis identified key themes such as efficiency, scalability, and technological integration, emphasizing the importance of combining multiple technologies to enhance overall effectiveness. The study highlights the need for supportive policy frameworks and regulatory measures to facilitate the adoption of these technologies and promote investment in sustainable waste management solutions. Despite the promising results, the study faced limitations, including data heterogeneity and limited availability of quantitative data, which underscore the need for standardized methodologies and comprehensive data reporting in future research. Addressing these challenges will enhance the reliability and validity of findings and support the development of effective strategies for polymer waste management. This research provides valuable insights into the potential of advanced technologies to contribute to environmental sustainability and resource conservation, offering a pathway towards more sustainable waste management practices.
