Abstract:

Culture is a broad concept that encompasses beliefs, values, and behaviors aligned with the social values and norms present in human societies. It also includes a collection of knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, social customs, and the habits of individuals in a group or society. Edward Burnett Tylor (۱۸۳۲ – ۱۹۱۷) defines culture as a complex whole that encompasses knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, ethics, and any capabilities and habits acquired by an individual as a member of society. Each region within a country can have a different culture compared to other regions. Culture is transmitted to the next generation through education, whereas genetics are inherited biologically. Additionally, culture provides common strategies to address any real or perceived needs in a society. Sports and culture have a deep and reciprocal connection, acting as powerful drivers of social and cultural changes. From ancient times to the present, sports have not only helped to enhance physical and mental strength but have also played a crucial role in transmitting cultural values and identities. In return, culture helps shape and direct sports and their development. Sports create new opportunities for social connections and intercultural interactions, significantly improving the social status of women and minorities and enhancing individuals’ mental and social well-being, thus optimizing the quality of life. Furthermore, sports provide numerous opportunities for economic development and investment attraction, which not only strengthens the economies of host countries but also contributes to positive transformations at the local community level. In summary, the interactions between sports and culture can lead to social cohesion and unity, forming the foundation for sustainable and integrated development.
