Abstract:
Currently, diabetic wounds, pressure ulcers, and burn injuries caused by accidents are highly prevalent. Inadequate care for these wounds can lead to infections, which may require hospitalization and create financial implications for patients and the healthcare system. The aim of this study is to develop a dressing to accelerate wound healing and reduce infections. In this study, sodium alginate and chitosan are used to prepare a hydrogel dressing with a high-viscosity liquid form to cover wound depths, as well as the antibiotic gentamicin to reduce infections and growth hormone to accelerate healing. To prepare a hydrogel with appropriate consistency, sodium alginate at concentrations of ۱-۳% and chitosan at concentrations of ۱-۴% were mixed. The resulting hydrogel was examined for its consistency and water absorption capacity. Growth hormone and gentamicin were then added to the hydrogel, and its effect on accelerating wound healing and reducing wound infection was evaluated using a scratch repair test. Analysis of hydrogels prepared with various concentrations of sodium alginate and chitosan showed that the hydrogel made with ۲% sodium alginate and ۱% chitosan, loaded with ۰.۱% gentamicin antibiotic and ۵۰ micrograms per milliliter of growth hormone, demonstrated the best performance in the scratch repair test. The results of the present study indicated that the alginate-chitosan hydrogel containing gentamicin and growth hormone has the potential to enhance the healing of wounds.
