Culture has become an increasingly important component of English language teaching in recent times. There are a number of reasons for this multicultural view on English use that incorporates a wider social and cultural perspective. To shed light on this view, this paper will examine the relationship between use of English in Iran and its relationship with teaching culture. This will be followed by a discussion on some of the difficulties involved in teaching culture awareness outside the central English speaking countries. Some suggestions will be made on how we might apply such approach in an EFL setting like Iran
