The role of cultural, ideological and other contextual elements in the formation of a text is very important. Transferring these elements from one language to another is even more crucial and most of the time, translators find it difficult to render them in the TT. Not having a thorough knowledge of the culture, ideology and other contextual elements of a text leads to some misunderstandings and mistranslations. Translators often resort to adaptation in order to deal with the SL situations that do not exist in the TL .In this study, Shabestary's Gulshan I Raz (8th century) was compared with its English translation by E.H Whinfield (1880) to find out whether the cultural, historical and other contextual elements of the ST have been considered in the translation. For this purpose, the researcher randomly selected 50 lines of source Text and compared them with the translated lines by E.H.Whinfield. The researcher made a comparison, first at the textual level and second at the meaning and discourse level. The adaptation strategies used by the translator were discussed too. It was found that a kind of meaning change has occurred . By doing this the intended meaning of the ST poet has not been transferred to the TT
