Abstract:

Recent studies indicate that there is a high demand for designing stainless steel alloys with adjustable corrosion rates and precipitation ability of bone-like apatite layer on the surface of stainless steel alloys in body. It is also known that apatite layers coating the surface of substrate implants improve bone response. The purpose of this work was to measure the roughness surface in different chemical compositions of coating and bioactivity evaluation in simulated body fluid (SBF). Coatings with four degrees of roughness (Ra: 12.63, 14.30, 14.54 and 12.85 μm) were produced by plasma spray. An approach to this challenge might be the application of nanocomposites based on NHA/Zircon containing of 0 wt.% , 5 wt.% , 10 wt.% and 15 wt.% of Zircon. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surfaces roughness tester were utilized to characterize the coated nanocomposite samples. The results have been indicated that the maximum roughness and the best bioactivity occurred in the sample coated by NHA/Zircon containing of 10 wt.% of zircon
