Abstract:

Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) represents a major advance in cementitious materials, offering a uniquely dense microstructure, superior mechanical strength, and long-term durability compared to conventional concrete. Born from decades of innovation, ranging from optimized particle packing and advanced admixtures to the integration of high-performance fibers, UHPC has found global application in bridges and various types of structures. Recent life-cycle assessments and cost analyses demonstrate that, despite higher initial expenses, UHPC’s extended service life, reduced maintenance demands, and material efficiency deliver notable environmental and economic benefits over time. In Iran, researchers at the University of Tehran have adapted UHPC technology to local conditions by employing indigenous materials and tailored mix designs. Their work underscores UHPC’s potential to enhance the resilience and sustainability of regional infrastructure. By bridging international advances with domestic innovation, this study highlights pathways for broader UHPC adoption in Iran’s construction sector and contributes to the global body of UHPC knowledge.
