Abstract:

Dyes are usually present in trace quantities in the treated effluents of many industries [1]. However, wastewater containing dyes is very difficult to treat, since the dyes are recalcitrant organic molecules, resistant to aerobic digestion, and are stable to light, heat and oxidizing agents due to their structure and molecular size [2,3]. nanoparticles have very interesting physicochemical properties, such as ordered structure with high aspectratio, ultra-light weight, high mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, metallic or semi-metallic behavior and high surface area [4,5]. In this research Tin oxid nanoparticle loaded on activated carbon has been used as adsorbent for the removal and recovery of Reactive red (198) from wastewater. The batch studies have been carried by observing the effects of pH, concentration of the dye, amount of adsorbents, of adsorbent, contact time etc. The results showed that as the amount of the adsorbent increased, the percentage of dye removal increased accordingly. The graphical correlation of various adsorption isotherm models like Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin have been carried out for this adsorbent. The kinetic studies suggest the process following pseudo second order kinetics and involvement of particle diffusion mechanism.
