Over the past few decades there has been avid interest in developing in situ strategies for remediation of environmental contaminants. Major foci have been on persistent organic chemicals and metals. Phytoremediation,a promising technique that uses plants to degrade, stabilize, and/or remove soil contaminants, has been extensively investigated. In this study, the effect of tall fescue on the phytoremediation of n-alkanes in an contaminated soil for 4 monthsaround the Oil Refinery of Tehran was investigated. Plant was grown in the contaminated soil as well as clean soil which considered as control. By using phytoremediation treatment, percentage removal of n-alkanes was reported over 90% during 4 months. Soil samples were analyzed for n-alkanes removal by GC-FID. Results presented the studied plant had promising remediation efficiency in highly contaminated soil
