Abstract:

Automatic feature recognition is one of the first steps toward manufacturing process planning automation. In the present study, an appropriate combination of graph-based and hint-based recognition approaches has been incorporated for feature recognition due to its specific capabilities. Each machining feature is being recognized using its specific recognition rule offered by hint based approach in the process module. Supporting neutral formats along with CSG model is being considered as a special capability for recognition framework. The developed system is capable of recognizing various types of simple isolated features (such as hole, pocket, etc.), different types of interacting features and advanced features including open pocket and fillet. The specific characteristic of the proposed system is its Multi-TAD property based on which it recognizes and introduces features according to their access direction. The capabilities of the recognition system have been verified by different parts including NIST standard and complex designed parts.
