Abstract:
In this paper a new type of fault current limiter (FCL) is proposed that is based on using parallel LC resonance circuit composed of a non-superconducting inductor and a capacitor. The proposed FCL makes resonance condition between L&C in fault time. It limits the value of fault current and controls it in a desired value. In addition capacitor of this topology can be used as a series compensator. A comparison between the proposed FCL and previous series FCL has been made in a transmission line by simulating them using PSCAD/EMTDC software. It is shown that the proposed FCL is superior over the previously introduced types.
