Abstract:

In this paper, three power management strategies for a hybrid power system consisting of solar panels and a fuel cell system are designed. In this power system, solar panels are the main power supply and the fuel cell system performs as a backup power source, a lithium-ion battery bank is used as energy storage device. Decision-making factors such as the state of charge of the battery, power of solar panels, demand power and hydrogen tank pressure are used in designing of power management strategies. Assessment criteria of the suggested strategies are energy efficiency of the battery bank, frequent start-up and shutdown of both fuel cell and electrolyser as well as the performance of the fuel cell during a period of one year. For the implementation of the strategies, the Matlab-Simulink environment is used. Simulation results show the proposed strategies perform very well and improve the system's performance
