Abstract:
Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/glass flake nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding method with various amounts (1, 2 and 3 wt%) of glass flake (GF). Then in order to evaluate the effect of nano glass flake (NGF) on the properties of PET substrate, morphology, thermal and mechanical analysis were carried out. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed the glass flake particles were homogenously dispersed in PET matrix. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) exhibited that the presence of glass flake in PET could improve thermal degradation onset temperature. In addition, the results of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMTA) indicated that with increasing content of nano glass flake storage modulus increased. It is found from tensile testing that tensile strength of PET improved in the presence of GF
