Abstract:

In this study, biodiesel, ethanol and diesel blends (BED) were tested in Tractor engine to investigate the performanceand emission characteristics of the engine. The results showed that BSFC have increased by 10.9‐43.5% with theincrease of ethanol and biodiesel percentage compared to diesel fuel. The exhaust gas temperature reduced with theincrease of biodiesel percentage. The minimum values of exhaust gas temperature were observed in a D74B20E6blend. For all blends the air‐fuel ratio declined with speed reduction and enhancement in fuel injection. Also, becausethere is an excess of oxygen in the diesel‐ biodiesel‐ ethanol blends the fuel‐air equivalence ratio is higher than thatof diesel fuel. The maximum values of λ were observed in the D74B20E6 blend. The NO emissions increased with theenhancement in percentage of biodiesel and ethanol. Totally, compared with diesel fuel, the BED blends can reduceboth of HC and CO emissions of diesel engines.
