Abstract:

Tsunamis always ranked high on the scale of natural disasters which have threatened the ocean sides and port cities in most of the continents during its history. Since 1850 alone, tsunamis havebeen responsible for the loss of over 420,000 lives and billions of dollars of damage to coastalstructures and habitats throughout the world [1]. In December 26, 2004 a devastating tsunamiwhich ranked the most devastating natural event resulted in the death of 230000 people inIndonesian part of Indian Ocean [2]. When tsunami happened, there was no warning system, preparedness of any kind and no systematic crisis management. From then on, international society has devised measures with priority of reducing damage [3]. On the other hand, in theInternational Coordination Meeting for the Development of a Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System for the Indian Ocean in the oceanography commission in March, 3-8, 2005 in Paris, Makran in Indian Ocean was recognized as one of 2 tsunami-prune regions and it was agreed that Iran collaborate with countries in the region to develop warning systems of tsunami [4].
