Abstract:

Parallel tubular channel angular pressing (PTCAP) is a novel severe plastic deformation (SPD) technique for producing ultra-fine grained (UFG) metallic tubes. The objective of the present work is to determine the residual stresses in PTCAP processed tubes using an finite element modeling (FEM) developed in ABAQUS software. The results have shown that an increase in the number of PTCAP pass would lead to a decrease in residual stresses that attributed to the low stress gradients along the thickness and length of the PTCAP processed tubes. Comparison of the residual stress values obtained from the FEM with those from experimental hole-drilling technique have shown good agreement of the stress values, giving the validity to numerical analysis for stress evaluations in the PTCAP process.
