Optimal capacitor allocation in distribution systems has been studied for a long times. It is an optimization problem which has an objective to define the optimal sizes and locations of capacitors to be installed. This paper presents a new methodology using improved Bees Algorithm (IBA) for the placement of capacitors on the distribution systems to reduce the power losses and to improve the voltage profile. The optimization algorithm described here hasbeen applied successfully in a real system. Results obtained by simulation of real system, is presented to validate the proposed solution method. The simulation results show that the proposed method has good performance.
