Abstract:
The existent woody debris (WD) in water have significant potential that could reduce the river cross-sectional area (surface), change the flow velocity, and finally increase the velocity in narrowings and exacerbate scour. Debris accumulation in front of bridge piers is a challenge for engineers, and caused financial loss and even fatality damages while bridge failure. In this paper the influences of woody debris accumulations on scour depth around the piers are studied. Experiments were conducted under clear-water with different hydraulic conditions university of Shahrekord. The length and width of debris were studied to determin their effects on maximum scour depth, and some results were obtained by comparing the scour depth in both without and with debris accumulation in front of pier.
