Abstract:

Amitriptyline is a one of the tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) which are a class ofpsychoactive drugs used primarily as antidepressants. Nowadays, it has very high anduncontrolled consumption; therefore, the residual of this drug in environment is considered asa serious and important environmental pollutant in water sources. The amounts of the residualdrugs in real samples are trace; so, a preconcentration method should be used for extractionand concentration of these compounds from real samples. Recently, several methods wereused for separation and determining of amitriptyline, based on the microextraction of thiscompound in water samples as well as the other biologically samples, such as blood plasmaand urine. In this review paper, various methods including liquid phase and solid phasemicroextraction methods were investigated for determination of trace amounts of this drug invarious real samples.
