JATROPHA OIL AS ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF LUBRICANT OIL

This research investigated physical properties of Jatropha oil for find new, clean and renewable source of lubricant oil. The study was performed using a four balls tribotester, CCD camera, digital microscope and viscosity meter. The experiment was conducted using different temperatures (55, 95 and 125°C) and loads (200, 400, and 600N). The experiment was conducted under the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) condition withnumber D 4172.The data included the evaluation of anti-wear, anti-friction, coefficient of friction, wear scar diameter, viscosity, flash temperature parameter and extreme pressure condition of Jatropha oil. All results of jatropha oil were comparing with hydraulic oil as mineral commercial oil with based lubricant to evaluate thelubricant ability of jatropha oil. The result showed that the Jatropha oil had higher lubricant ability rather than hydraulic mineral oil using various temperature and loads.
