Abstract:

The stability of higher order shear deformable plate under constant initial stresses is studied by the spline finite strip method. spline finite strip capability is presented for predicting the buckling stresses and buckling mode shapes of composite laminated plates witch may have arbitrary lay-ups and boundary conditions. In this paper, spline finite strip method is developed in the context of third order shear deformation plate theory. A notable feature of the present capability is that the higher-order displacement fields are assumed to account for the non-linear variation of transverse displacement through the plate thickness of plate. Transverse shear deformation can now be effectively evaluated in the absence of shear correction factors.
