Abstract:
The turbulent flow around rectangular cylinders was investigated by large eddy simulation (LES) with two subgrid scale models, the Smagorinsky (S-Model) and a one-equation model (OE-Model). Rectangular cylinders with different side ratios(R=width/height ) from R=0.4 to R=1 were employed for Re=100000. Effect of Reynolds number is also examined for R=0.62. An incompressible 3D finite volume code with a collocated grid arrangement was used for solving the filtered Navier-Stocks equations. These equations were solved with an implicit fractional two-step method. The mean and instantaneous flow structures are studied with quantities such as streamlines, vortices, pressure, turbulent stresses and turbulent kinetic energy. The global results was also computed and compared with experimental results.
