Abstract:
A simple and efficient synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones or 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)- thiones is described, using [π-C5H5NC16H33]3[PW4O16] (CPW) as a solid acid catalyst from an aldehyde, 1,3-dicarbonyl compound, and urea or thiourea at 100 °C under solvent-free conditions. Short reaction times, high yields, easy work-up, use of environmentally friendly catalyst and absence of organic solvents makes this method efficient and environmentally benign.
