Abstract:

The organic-Inorganic molybdenum oxide catalysts based onpyridinecarboxylic acid were prepared and characterized by FT-IRspectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA/DTA) and SEM microscopy. The prepared complexes were used ascatalysts for the oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT) as amodel compound. The sulfur model (DBT) were oxidized and removed ata temperature range of 40-50°C with H2O2 as the oxidant and acetonitrileas the extraction agent. Results showed that the structure and electrondensity can affected the reactivity of the sulfur compounds. In thesereactions, high rates of DBT removal (89- 97%) were achieved within ashort time (ca. 1 hour) under mild reaction conditions. The differences inthe electron-donor capability of the pyridinecarboxylate ligands play a rolewith a slight implication in the rate and activity of the catalysts. The weakerMo-O bond, lower pKa values, shows higher conversion based on theelectron-donor capability of ligands.
