Study of Energy indices in agro-ecosystems is received much attention in the recent years. It seems to be a suitable approach to assess environmental problems and their impacts in the ways of sustainability. The aim of the present study was to compare irrigated and dryland barely farms in terms of energy efficiency, energy productivity, benefit to cost ratio and the amount of renewable energy used in Fars and Khuzestan. Due to low energy productivity, benefit to cost ratio and net return of dryland barley farms compare to irrigated system we suggested irrigated barley production system as a winner in term of energy use efficiency. Increase in price, the net return and benefit to cost ration in Irrigated barley will significantly improve overall barley production in both Fars and Khuzestan.
