The aim of this work is to analyze the performance of ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) used for heating and cooling of building for various climatic conditions of Tabriz, Iran. In particular, horizontal type ground heat exchanger with two different configurations (linear and linear with tank) in different working conditions is investigated. The calculations were made with the CFD code Solid Works Flow Simulation and the simulations covered one year of system operation, both in summer and winter for climatic conditions of the Tabriz. The effect of three different parameters (depth, thermal conductivity of ground and water inlet velocity) on the rate of heat transfer was studied. Thermal conductivity has the greatest role in the heat flux obtained. Results show that the annual average heat flux will be approximately double(in k=2) if the water output of the tank in depth 2.5 meters in winter and 5.5 meters in the summer are used. It should be noted that the repair cost would be less common than other systems because it will occupy less space in the excavation.
