Abstract:

When human is exposed to extremely hot environments, the body gains heat by both radiation and conduction; therefore core temperature increases. By raising temperature of sympathetic centers in the posterior hypothalamus, vasodilation occurs and heart rate and blood pressure increase. Therefore, more blood is diverted towards the surface and skin transfers extra heat to its surrounding. The only way to get rid of excess heat is evaporation, due to the great specific heat capacity of the sweat. In this study, sixteen healthy female volunteers, age 20±2 years [mean±S.D.] were selected in order to record temperature-time curves after entering a sauna. Each temperature sensor attached to predicted organ of samples. Results show that temperature-time curves for each subject in the dry sauna who drank sugar-water, was below those of subjects who did not drink sugar-water. Therefore, drinking sugar-water replaces lost sweat rapidly and the sweat rate enhances. In addition, the tests verify greater sweat glands concentration in the chest than in the nape of the neck and forearm. Moreover, skin temperature does not exceed the predicted values, some minutes after entering a sauna.
