Abstract:

Sociolinguistics is the study of how language serves and is shaped by the social nature of human beings. Language teachings as well as language learning are connected with sociolinguistics in many ways. In its broadest conception, sociolinguistics analyzes many and diverse ways in which language and society entwine, so it is one of the main categories of linguistics that is of vital importance in language teaching and learning. The purpose of this research was to investigate the necessity of the incorporation of sociolinguistics concepts such as culture, identity, ethnicity, and attitudes to better understand as well as improving language teaching and learning. Curriculum and instruction can be arranged to prompt positive attitudes toward the foreign language to be learned and nationalities associated with the language. Inclusion of cultural elements in the foreign language curriculum helps learners to understand new language concepts and provides a context for their use. This research is a descriptive qualitative study in nature. The findings of this research can pave the way for better language teaching and learning.
