Abstract:

In designing shrink fit connections, the parts which haveto be assembled are usually exposed to thermomechanicalloads. The mode and time duration of heattransfer have a significant effect on stresses created inthe parts and joint ability to withstand against externalloads. Therefore, planning a set of appropriate thermaland structural procedures has significant role inoptimum design of junctions. Despite of the fact, fewresearches have been done on shrink fit operation anddesign and just radial interface is considered as the mainparameter in previous works. In this study, shrink fitsare studied in two main processes: first heating andmounting process and then backing to the ambientcondition. A 3D coupled thermal and structuralsimulation based on FEM is done on each processthrough well-known Solidworks Simulation. Toevaluate the accuracy, exact analytical solution of twosteel rings shrink fit is compared with the approachoutcomes. Results of validated method are used forchoosing the most optimum sub processes of shrink fitfabricatio
