Abstract:
In the present study the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of furfural in wastewater was studied. The impregnation method was used to immobilize the TiO2 nano particles on a glass support material. The performance of this coated glass plate was tested into a photocatalytic reactor. The intermediate products that produced in during of reaction have been analyzed by HPLC and HPLC-MASS. Concerning the degradation mechanism of furfural, there are three steps generally expected, including aldehyde group oxidation, photo-oxidation of aromatic ring and cleavage of ring. The intermediates of photo-oxidation of furfural were maleic and 2, 3-Dihydroxy-succinic (tartaric), acids.
