Abstract:

The uptake of uranium ions from aqueous solutions by strong anion exchange resin has been studied in a batch and column system. The adsorption efficiency was determined as a function of pH, contact time and capacity of resin. The results revealed that the presence of iron in aqueous solution reduced the sorption of uranium ions by Juxing (717) resin. The adsorption results showed that the percentage of uranium adsorbed was increased significantly with an decrease in the pH or acidity of aqueous solutions. Time dependence of the batch studies also showed that a contact time of 30 min. was sufficient to reach equilibrium. The adsorption equilibrium was described by Freundlich isotherm model. It was shown that the equilibrium data could be fitted by Freundlich equation
