Activated carbons are prepared by physical activation from Pistachio shell with steam. The effects of operating conditions for activation method on the iodine number of the product and reaction yield were investigated. cubic model was developed using central composite design (CCD) for prediction of iodinenumber and reaction yield in the activation process. The optimum operating conditions were calculated by the model to produce physically activated carbonwith large iodine number and product yield. The optimum iodine number and product yield of physical activation are 1708.8 mg/g and 60.1 wt% respectively, which showed good agreement with the experimental values
