Abstract:

Nepheline syenite and talc in limited amounts is used to reduce the sintering temperature in manufacturing ceramic Raschig rings. In this investigation the mixture design method and response surface analysis were chosen to screen a large number of data and to evaluate the effect of fluxing agents on final characteristics of rings. With this algorithm a suitable mixing ratio was mathematically determined for fluxing agents in which the optimum properties can be achieved for the product. The results indicated that the addition of 0.83 wt.% nepheline syenite and 3.33 wt.% talc are preferable for fabricating rings with the suitable reliability
