Abstract:
Diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas’s insulin production is impaired. It is characterized by an increase in blood glucose level. The most desirable treatment is to keep blood glucose concentration in a normoglycemic range to avoid dangerous hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic. Resent papers have proposed many control algorithms to decide on insulin delivery rate throughout insulin pump. Although insulin pump is close to artificial pancreas, it is not widely used in some countries. In this paper, multiple daily insulin injections are proposed and the required amount of insulin in each injection is calculated by genetic algorithm optimization. This leads to an offline control strategy and it is implemented on the various conditions such as fixed or variable amount of carbohydrate intake in each meal/snack, fixed or variable number of daily insulin injections and various patients’ body weights. According to the simulation results, the simulated patient’s blood glucose concentration avoids from dangerous low/high levels.
