Abstract:

In this paper, a novel approach for transmission expansion planning (TEP) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) for the purpose of minimizing the costsof making competition and unsupplied load is presented. For this reason, the cost of lack of competition and the cost of unsupplied load resulting from transmission lines constraints for possible plans are calculated. Then, optimal power flow (OPF) is run for three different load cases by considering costs of plants generation and constraints related to plants’ capacity and the possibility of load interruption. Also, total cost is defined and calculated in order to choose the best plan. The preferences of this proposed approach are simple implementation, lack of need to much data and long calculations. Also it involves various costs for TEP.
