Analysis the Global Market Structure for Corn and Soybean

Corn and soybean as oilseeds crops have much applications in agricultural-related industries. Meals of these Seeds are used as animal food. Studies show that some countries use corn residues for biofuel production. This paper aims to determine market structure of corn and soybean which can play important roles in the adoption of appropriate policies. This study uses different indexes: concentration ratio, Herfindahl, Entropy, and logarithmic standard deviation to determine market structure of exports and imports of these products during 2000-2011. The results have shown that the structure of world corn trade market, have been open oligopoly and monopoly with dominant firm. The results also show that the market structure of world soybean has been closed oligopoly to exclusive dominant firm and the soybean export market has been monopoly with dominant firm.
