Abstract:

The objective of this study was to investigate Ag2O/SiO2 nanocomposite as an inexpensive adsorbent for removal of Methylene Blue from aqueous solutions which were prepared by the precipitationmethod. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) were employed forcharacterization of the introduced adsorbent. The effects of several factors, including pH, contact time, initial concentration, adsorbent dosage and temperature on sorption capacity were evaluated. The optimal pH value for the removal of the MB by the introduced adsorbent was about 7. Isotherminvestigation was carried out using Freundlich and Langmuir models. Kinetics study was performed using pseudo first and pseudo-second-order models. Results showed that the adsorption of the Methylene Blue was enhanced with increasing initial dye concentration, pH and contact time. Theoptimum pH was 7. The qmax for adsorption of methylene blue dye from the Langmuir model was 200 mg/g. Considering the values of R2 (˃0.996), Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second order kinetic model had the best fitness
