Abstract:
The conventional methods for hole-flanging require complex tools and almost are expensive.Accordingly for low and small volume of production and prototype manufacturing, incremental forming methodwith its low cost and high flexibility may be a suitable alternative for conventional methods. The feature of thecreated flange by incremental forming approach is one of the important cases that have not been considered inprevious researches. In this paper, two types of the holes were flanged in a truncated cone and a frustum pyramidshape. Flange features such as final hole size, flange height and wall thickness were measured, after performingthe experimental tests. The results indicated that by considering the limitation of height and size of the hole, asquare hole can be flanged by incremental approach but the quality of the conical flange is higher than that ofpyramid one. The examination of the parts showed that by increasing the initial size of the sheet hole, the rate ofincreasing the final size of the hole and the thinning of the flange wall reduce.
