Abstract:
Over the last decade, a widespread interest has been shown in the application of trapezoidally-corrugated steel plate shear walls (TCSPSWs) as a desirable resistant system against the lateral load in buildings. In some cases, the existence of openings is inevitable because of architectural reasons, passing equipment, or structural reasons, such as ductility and rigidity control. Therefore, it is necessary to do research on the effects of openings on the behavior of steel plate shear walls under monotonic loadings. In this paper the ductility and strength of trapezoidally-corrugated steel plate shear walls are investigated through detailed numerical simulations. The study addresses the non-linear analysis of (TCSPSWs) with flat and corrugated infill plates using finite element technique for which ANSYS software is employed. To this end and following the validation of the numerical, numerous finite element models have been developed base on several key parameters including the trapezoidal infill corrugation forms, corrugation angle, infill thickness and different opening percentage. The squared-openings are implemented in the center of the infill with areas of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 percent of the infills out-of-plane projected area, i.e. span length multiplied by height. In the end, the results are compared to those of the shear walls without openings
