In this contribution a new technique for on-line and off-line measurement and evaluation of partial discharge is introduced. The difficulties of earlier on-line PD detection are discussed and the advantages of using fibre optic elements for conversion and transmission of PD signals are shown. The investigated modelling methods for transformer coils used for the localisation of PDs are summarised and the required off-line and on-line measurements are explained. Furthermore the experimental results on a power transformer at a substation in Germany are presented.
