Poly(vinyl acetate), PVAc, with a degree of polymerization 600-620 was prepared by using solution polymerized at 55 °C using benzoyl peroxide(BPO) as primary initiator, dimyristyl peroxydicarbonate(Perkadox 26) as secondary and methanola as a solvent. The effect of using secondary initiator was investigated in terms of conversion of VAc into PVAc, molecular weights of PVAc and the optimized adding time.The solution polymerization using Perkadox 26 as secondary initiator is excepted to be an easy way of producing PVAc with high conversion by simple chemical initiation without the need for special devices and hence, it is to be a more profitable precursor of poly(vinyl alcohol).
